    Until closed or retitled. Acting quickly helps avoid complications.
  • What happens to direct deposits? 
    Federal payments like Social Security and VA benefits must be returned after the date of death.
  • How do I access funds? 
    If there is a joint owner or beneficiary, funds transfer automatically. Otherwise, legal documents may be required.

  • What happens to a credit card if the deceased was the sole borrower
    The account is closed, and the estate may be responsible for outstanding balances.
  • Can a joint cardholder continue using the card? 
    Yes, the account will be retitled in the surviving borrower’s name.
  • What about mortgages and home equity lines? 
    If the deceased was the only borrower, Frontwave will work with heirs to discuss options.

  • How do I stop VA benefit payments? 
    Call 800.827.1000 to stop VA benefit payments and apply for survivor benefits.
