Frontwave Credit Union Announces Member Relief Measures in Response to Federal Government Shutdown

Frontwave Press Release

Oceanside, CA — Frontwave Credit Union has announced a series of member relief measures in response to the federal government shutdown. To support those affected, the credit union will advance payroll for Members receiving Military, Department of Defense (DoD), and Social Security direct deposits. In addition, Frontwave is offering further financial assistance options for Federal Employees impacted by the shutdown.

Frontwave Credit Union today announced immediate action to support its members amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, ensuring financial stability for those impacted.

To provide certainty, Frontwave has already posted payroll for over 30,000 direct deposit active-duty Military members, totaling nearly $50 million.

Should the shutdown continue, Frontwave will also ensure that affected DoD civilian employees receive their pay during their scheduled cycle. Furthermore, members who receive Social Security benefits via direct deposit with Frontwave will receive their funds on time, even if federal agencies are delayed in disbursement.

“Our Members shouldn’t have to worry about making rent or buying groceries because of a budget impasse,” said Chief Experience Officer Todd Kern. “Each time the federal government threatens to shut down, we step up with no-fee, no-interest payroll advances and one-on-one solutions so our members can keep life moving.”

How the Frontwave Payroll Advance Works:

  • Automatic for eligible direct-deposit Members: Frontwave will post a payroll advance based on the Member’s most recent Military or DoD payroll or Social Security benefit deposit up to $6,000.
  • Frontwave funds the advance: These funds are provided by Frontwave, not the federal government.
  • Seamless true-up later: When federal payroll/benefits resume, Frontwave will reverse the advance.
  • Individual support: If the actual amount differs from the advance, Frontwave will work with Members individually to reconcile any discrepancies.
  • Overdraft relief: Frontwave will work to prevent/void overdraft issues tied to timing during the shutdown period.

Additional Member Assistance Available

  • Financial assistance loans
  • Government Shut Down Loan: up to $6,000 for 60 days at 0%
  • Loan extensions (penalty-free)
  • Skip-a-payment options on qualified loans

Frontwave can help Members set up direct deposit for paychecks, tax refunds, Social Security and other benefits. Members with direct deposit may receive eligible deposits up to two days early, providing faster access to funds year-round.

If members already have direct deposit with Frontwave, no action is required, and advances will post automatically during the shutdown period.
